Last Saturday, our family embarked on a major cleaning endeavor. The day started with a hearty breakfast, after which my mother, with her efficient manner, assigned tasks to each member of the family. My mother took on the challenge of cleaning the kitchen, which is always the hardest job, while my brother and I were tasked with cleaning the stairs.
As soon as the tasks were assigned, we quickly got to work. I carried a bucket and a rag, while my brother took a broom and ran up to the stairs. Our home has four stories and eight flights of stairs, so we started from the top floor and worked our way down. My brother began sweeping the stairs, while I tackled cleaning the handrails.
Due to the lack of frequent use, the top of the stairs was covered in a fine layer of dust. To avoid inhaling the dust, I helped my brother by wetting the stairs with a bailer filled with water. This reduced the amount of dust in the air, allowing us to work more comfortably.
I used a wet cloth to wipe the dust from the handrails, the pillars, and the undersides of the steps. After a while, the cloth would turn black from the dust, and I had to refresh it in the bucket before continuing. This process was repeated several times, and although I felt tempted to stop, I didn't want to fall behind my brother, who was diligently sweeping the floors below.
As the day progressed, the once-clear water in the bucket became increasingly murky, signaling that we were making progress. Finally, we completed our task. When we finished, my mother had also finished cleaning the kitchen, and she inspected our work. Satisfied, she commented that we had done a good job, but warned us that if we had not cleaned properly, she would have made us redo it.
The experience was tiring, and by the end of it, my back and waist ached. However, we were proud of our accomplishment. Cleaning the house not only made our living space more comfortable but also taught us the value of hard work and teamwork.
